What Is a Queening Chair? Sizes, Heights and How to Choose

A queening chair is a low piece of furniture with an opening in the seat, made for facesitting. One partner sits on it. The other lies on their back underneath, with their head below the opening. The chair carries the weight, so the person on top can sit fully relaxed and stay as long as you both want. You will also see it called a facesitting chair or a queening stool.

How a queening chair works

Without furniture, the person on top has to hold their own weight on their knees and thighs. That gets tiring fast, and it is hard to relax while doing it. A queening chair solves this. The seat takes the weight, and the height is set so the partner underneath is close without carrying any of it.

That is the whole idea: facesitting becomes comfortable for both people. It is why couples who own one use it often, not once.

Chair or stool

We make two versions. The Queening Chair has side panels that rise above the seat and work as armrests. The Queening Stool is lower and flat, with no sides. If you are deciding between them, read How to Choose Between a Facesitting Chair and Stool.

Sizes

  • Width: 11 in (28 cm) on every model.
  • Standard length: 17.7 in (45 cm). The compact option with the smallest footprint.
  • Long length: 21.6 in (55 cm). More seating area and more room for different body types. On the stool this option is called Extended.

Heights

  • Queening Stool: adjustable from 7.87 in to 10.63 in (20 to 27 cm), 4 positions.
  • Queening Chair, Standard Height: up to 15.35 in (39 cm), 3 positions.
  • Queening Chair, Tall Height: up to 19.29 in (49 cm), 6 positions. Available in the Long length with a top panel.

Each step changes the height by about 1.18 in (30 mm). The right height depends on the build of the partner lying underneath and on whether they like a pillow under their head. Start in a middle position and move one step at a time until it feels right for both of you.

How to choose

  • Not sure about length? Take Long if you want more room to move. Take Standard if floor space matters more.
  • Want it to pass as ordinary furniture? Choose a version with the removable top panel. With the panel on, the opening is covered.
  • Want more comfort for the person on top? Look at the padded Comfort Edition chair and stool, with removable cushions 2 in (50 mm) thick.
  • Want attachment points? Add D-rings. They are metal rings on the side panels for cuffs or restraints, which you will find in Accessories.
