How to Choose Between a Facesitting Chair and Stool

Choose the chair if the person on top wants side support and a taller seat. Choose the stool if you want the lowest, most compact piece, the one that looks most like an ordinary step stool. Both are built the same way, hold the same weight and come in the same finishes. The difference is shape and height.

The Queening Chair

The Queening Chair has side panels that rise above the seat. They work as armrests and give the person on top something to hold and lean on.

  • Height: Standard, up to 15.35 in (39 cm) with 3 positions, or Tall, up to 19.29 in (49 cm) with 6 positions.
  • Length: Standard 17.7 in (45 cm) or Long 21.6 in (55 cm).
  • Assembly: 12 screws, 6 on each side.

Pick the chair if stability matters most to the person on top, or if you want the wider height range of the Tall version.

The Queening Stool

The Queening Stool is lower and flat, with no sides. With its top panel on, it looks like a compact step stool.

  • Height: adjustable from 7.87 in to 10.63 in (20 to 27 cm), 4 positions.
  • Length: Standard 17.7 in (45 cm) or Extended 21.6 in (55 cm).
  • Weight: 10.7 lb, easy to move and put away.
  • Assembly: 8 screws, 4 on each side.

Pick the stool if you want the smallest footprint, the lowest seat, or the piece that draws the least attention in a room.

Side by side

  • Side support: the chair has it, the stool does not.
  • Height positions: 3 or 6 on the chair, 4 on the stool.
  • With the top panel on: the chair looks like a low wooden chair, the stool like a step stool.
  • Screws to assemble: 12 for the chair, 8 for the stool.

What is the same on both

  • Rated to 400 lbs (180 kg).
  • 11 in (28 cm) wide.
  • Layered hardwood plywood in three finishes: Natural, Natural with clear coat, Dark Walnut with clear coat.
  • Optional removable top panel that covers the seat opening.
  • Optional D-rings for cuffs and restraints.
  • A padded Comfort Edition with removable cushions: chair and stool.
  • Made to order in California. Ships in 3 business days, in a plain box.

Still not sure?

Think about who will sit on it. If they like to settle in and stay, the chair's side panels make that easier. If you mainly want something small that lives next to the bed and that nobody looks at twice, take the stool.
